Swinton Insurance at the bottom of the High Street will close its doors for the final time on Friday 7th March. The Stone store has been numerous insurance companies such as Insure Shop, Equity and finally Swinton Insurance and has been at the bottom of Stone High Street for over a decade. Staff from the Stone store will continue their jobs at the Stafford branch in Eastgate Street from Monday 10th March.

A member of staff said today: “We would like to thank all customers for making the days interesting and for their continued custom over the years as the shop has passed from company to company. It will be sad to leave the High Street for the last time but times change and we must move with the custom. Thank you to all; 7th March will be a sad day.”

Customers are now being asked to either use the Stafford store for enquiries by phoning 01785 214925 or phone the national number on 0800 056 5631.

Meanwhile, Footsteps shoe shop in Stafford Street beneath Olives restaurant will also be closing in March, although a final date is not yet known. It follows the closure of The Shoe Tree and Pour Les Pieds last year and will leave Stone without a shoe shop. Footsteps has been trading in the town for 30 years – very sad.

Stone Country Butchers will be opening a deli in the former Pour Les Pieds unit in Adie’s Alley, which will open on 14th March. It’s not known yet what will happen to the Swinton and Footsteps units.
