Tackling growth – Sir Gavin applauds Stone Rugby Club’s plans

Sir Gavin Williamson visited Stone Rugby Club to meet with young players and discuss the Club’s expansion.

Sir Gavin was pleased to visit the grounds of the Club to meet with the Mini and Junior teams. He met with the Club’s Chairman, Steve Lewis, and they discussed the ways the team are getting more young people involved in sports.

Stone Rugby Club was formed in 1990 and has grown over the years to become a thriving social hub, gaining official club accreditation in 2019. The Club’s youngest members showed Sir Gavin around the facility, including the building work of their new Club House.

The Club has grown significantly since its beginnings and now hosts both senior and junior sides, a ladies’ team, qualified coaches at all levels, and a club physio.

Sir Gavin said: “It was a pleasure to meet with Steve and several younger players who were excited to show off their new kit for the coming seasons.

The Club has expanded considerably in recent years and it was great to see teams of all ages and genders.”
