Temporary changes at A Little Bit of Stone

There are some temporary changes afoot at A Little Bit of Stone that we’d like to tell you about.

I’m going to be taking a break from the site for the next three months (this is Jamie writing, by the way).

I’ve been working on the site – with my ALBOS partner Jon Cook – for more than three years now. I’ve written almost 2,000 stories, sent over 20,000 tweets and goodness knows how many Facebook updates. The site has become everything I hoped it would be when I set it up in August 2010 – a reliable, timely and trustworthy source of news and information about this great town.

What I hadn’t anticipated is just how big A Little Bit of Stone would become. The site regularly gets over 12,000 unique visitors a month, and its social media presence is incredible, fuelled by thousands of actively-engaged people who contribute so, so much to the site.

However, after three-and-a-half years I feel the time is right for me to take some time out. So I won’t be writing any stories, nor will I be manning the social media, for the next three months. Not sure how I’ll manage, to be honest!

I’m very lucky to have a partner in the site who’s as passionate and committed to it as I am and Jon will be managing the site in my absence – thanks Jon. We’re very lucky to have our band of volunteers who will also be continuing to work on the site. The site will continue over the next few months – just without me! You can still use the news@alittlebitofstone.com email address, by the way.

I wish I could say I was heading for some tropical paradise to relax and unwind for the next three months! Alas, no. Instead, I’ll be concentrating on my freelance work and giving my family the time and attention that has sometimes been lacking this last few years as I’ve beavered away on the site in the evenings and weekends. Not sure if they’re looking forward to this or not!

See you in three months’ time,

Jamie Summerfield
