The Inn Ringers are appealing for a couple of new ringers to join their group that was established back in 1977.
Twelve ringers are required for the team to be at full strength, at the moment the team are two ringers short.
Musical Director for the team Paul Mellor told A Little Bit of Stone:
‘we have experienced a shortage of ringers several times over the years – fortunately, we have always managed to recruit some new ringers when we have needed them. The last 18 months have been difficult for all handbell teams, getting the team going again after such a long time away and reaching a standard where we can perform concerts again is proving difficult just now’.
The team practice every Monday night at St Luke’s Church Hall in Tittensor, they usually perform between 6 and 10 concerts a year. You do not have to be able to read music, the team have their own type of ‘music’ which enables people who can’t read music notation to be able to play music. The team have no concert bookings in the immediate future but are hoping to be back at full strength in the New Year.
Paul went on to say
‘we have been going since 1977, 44 years is a long time and I would like to think that we can generate some interest to enable the team to keep going for another 44 years!!!’
It is great fun, being part of a team who are able to go out and entertain people with the unique sound the bells make. Playing tunes on bells goes back centuries, the art of handbell ringing has experienced its highs and lows and it would be such a shame if creative, traditional art forms like this were to disappear from our popular culture’.
