Stone Revellers are staging The Mikado, Gilbert & Sullivan’s classic comic opera, in the town in April.
This will be Stone Revellers’ first ever Gilbert & Sullivan production and follows their first ever Shakespeare production – A Midsummer Night’s Dream – last year.
The Mikado is a continually popular hit with audiences and, while this won’t be a complete reimagining, The Revellers say their “less than typical” presentation of the story will bring it to life for established G&S fans and those less familiar with this classic piece of British theatre.

So to the story…
The story of The Mikado is no simple tale: it twists and turns, it’s wacky and, at times, flat-out absurd. To ensure they do a good job of telling the tale, Stone Revellers has assumed the guise of a travelling band of players, with all the props and costume they can carry to bring this fantastic story to life.
It’s a slightly different approach but one they are sure that audiences will enjoy.
Nanki-Poo loves Yum-Yum. Just one snag, she’s betrothed to Ko-Ko, the new Lord High Executioner. Just to add a spanner in to the works, Ko-Ko needs to find someone to execute or it’s his own neck on the block. Maybe Ko-Ko and Nanki-Poo can come to some arrangement… without anyone losing their head?
The combination of Gilbert’s virtuosic wit, Sullivan’s memorable melodies and some classic Revellers antics will be sure to make this an irresistible treat!
