Stone’s Wetherspoon Pub, The Poste of Stone, commissioned Stone based artist Emma Joustra as part of their redecoration plans
JD Wetherspoon has a tradition of acquiring unconventional premises and sympathetically transforming them into public houses. The Poste of Stone has been opened for some years, converted from the former central Post Office for the town, and has been undergoing recent refurbishments.
To mark the occasion local Stone artist Emma Joustra was commissioned to create two new pieces for the pub, one of its front elevation from Granville Square and one of its side elevation from Station Road.
Andy Best, Shift Manager for The Poste of Stone, explained to A Little Bit of Stone about the new installations:
“As part of our redecoration program we wanted to refresh the historic artwork that we already had on show within the pub. Wetherspoons have always placed reference pieces within their pubs for the building and local history.
After our redecoration we had wall space crying out for new artwork and we knew immediately the Stone artist that we wanted to commission.
Emma’s art work is well known within the area and is an integral part of the history and community in the town. This perfectly aligned with our requirements, so we brought Emma onboard to create two of her stunning pieces for us”
At the official unveiling we caught up with Emma who told us:
“I was so excited when I got the call to draw ‘The Poste of Stone’ – it is such a beautiful building, and it was great to include some real characters in there too.
I love how JD Wetherspoon are always sympathetic to a building’s history, so I couldn’t resist including a red post van, and a black and white cat.
I was delighted to draw 2 pictures for them, the front view from Granville Square and the side view from Station Road, and I would love the opportunity to draw more Wetherspoon establishments.”
You can find both pieces of work at the back section of The Poste of Stone. The in-house JD Wetherspoons magazine will also be running a feature on the artwork so keep an eye out for that too!
