On the back of Cllr Hood’s letter to Matthew Ellis, Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire, we received a response to our request for a comment from his press team.

A spokesperson for the Staffordshire Commissioner’s Office said:
‘Overall crime in Stone has fallen and continues to do so. There have been some increases in vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour, but we have been assured the Neighbourhood Policing Team is working hard to deal with these incidents in a prompt and robust way. Seven people have already been charged with a large number of offences and are currently going through the criminal justice system.
‘We would encourage the public to work with the police and report any incidents as quickly as possible through the appropriate channels to help officers tackle crime promptly and ensure offenders are brought to justice.’
Cllr Hood’s letter has been followed today a letter from Stone MP, Sir Bill Cash, so we’re hoping that the full responses to both these letters go some way to give comfort to Stone residents that the police are on the case in our town.

Dear Mr Matt Ellis. Perhaps you should get off your office chair and come and visit our, what was, lovely little town. I’m sure our councillors and shop keepers will happily show you round and perhaps you could meet some of our towns public and here their statements of how scared and worried they are for themselves, their Elderly parents, their children and their property, before people take things into their own hands!!!
Your response is not good enough for the people of Stone. We have a right to feel safe and do do our shop keepers.
