Thousands enjoy a safe V Festival

Thousands of people enjoyed a safe V Festival in Staffordshire last weekend following careful planning by event organisers and a range of other organisations.

Staffordshire County Council’s highways and trading standards worked throughout the weekend to ensure people could get to and from the festival as easily as possible and had a safe time while they were there. They worked closely with the V Festival team, the police, South Staffordshire Council and the Highways Agency.

Other than the anticipated congestion on its road network, the highways team did not report any major problems. County council trading standards officers seized around 300 items of counterfeit clothing from three traders off site on Sunday, along with 120 counterfeit or reused wristbands and tickets and 176 ‘legal high’ items, all off site.

Around 85,000 people visited the festival over the weekend bringing in an estimated £6million to the local economy.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for economy and infrastructure Mark Winnington said: “Once again V Festival has been a huge success and I’m sure everyone had a great time at one of the biggest music events in the country.

“The county council has worked closely with the festival organisers from an early stage along with a range of other organisations to ensure everyone had a safe and enjoyable time. Our highways team did not report any significant problems and we’re pleased our trading standards team stopped people getting ripped off as a result of the seizures off site.

“We’d like to thank everyone for the patience when travelling, both festival goers and local people and businesses, and look forward to seeing the many thousand visitors return to Staffordshire next year.”
