Thousands of people turned up to Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service’s Family Day on Saturday 18th September at the service’s HQ in Stone.
Service mascot Welephant entertained the crowds while firefighters gave rope rescue and car crash demonstrations throughout the day. Visitors also got to tour the service’s control room and climb aboard the fire engines.
The event also saw the launch of the new ‘Welephant Club’, which is aimed at children between four and eight. Over 200 children signed up on Saturday to be a free member and there are still places available for any children wishing to join who were unable to attend the event. Click here for more information.
The service was also raising awareness of their upcoming campaign, ‘Push the Button’, and were encouraging people to pledge to test their smoke alarm on a weekly basis. Other activities included smoke house tours, student firefighter hose competitions, face painting and circus skills.
Event organiser Jude Russell said: “It was a fantastic day. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and the turnout was unbelievable! We had firefighters from all over the county involved and several partner organisations. The fire service demonstrations were really popular, along with the police helicopter and the fire investigation dogs, Ellie and Pepper.”
There was a big raffle on the day and there are still lots of unclaimed prizes, including tickets to Alton Towers and a bottle of Champagne. If you bought a ticket, click here to see if you’re a winner!
