PCSO Megan Rogers advises Stone residents to be vigilant:

“Distraction thefts have been more common over the past few months.

Individuals may commit distraction thefts either alone or in a small group.

Recent reports have shown techniques used in shops such as an offender knocking footwear off a shelf, the victim may pick the item up off the floor subsequently giving the offender an opportunity to steal out of the victim’s bag.

Another technique used is when individuals will distract a shop assistant by asking questions and an offender will use this opportunity to take items from the store.

Please remain vigilant when shopping, ensure that your personal belongings are in sight or secured on your person and report any suspicious activity to the police.”
