Three Peaks in 24 hours for Lally

Nine young people from Stone completed the Three Peaks Challenge and climbed Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scaffell Pike in less than 24 hours in memory of Lally McColl.

Lally was just 21 when he died after falling into the canal in Stone earlier this year. His family and friends have launched a £10,000 fundraising effort for epilepsy charity Gemma’s Ray of Hope, with lots of events planned. Click HERE to see them all.

The group before setting off on their challenge

The nine young people – Stu Jarvie, Katy Cotton, Jim Cotton, Roy Mac, Craig Brown, James Potter, Alex Hunter, Nicole Hunter and Kate Adams – not to mention drivers Carl Rowley, Emily Forrester and Sharon Turner – completed the challenge in 23 hours and 43 minutes!

There were injuries, tears of joy and sadness, and when the challenge had been completed, the group celebrated with Lally’s favourite drink, a Stella.

Lally’s godmother Sharon Turner was one of the drivers. She said: “It was an incredible achievement and I’m so proud of all of them. Some of the walking and climbing was done in darkness with head torches, and even though some of them were advised to pull out because of injuries, they wouldn’t dream of it. We felt so proud when we’d done it – all the pain was worth it. The support for one another was phenomenal and they’re all so much closer for doing it.”
