Stone student Tom Williams is heading to America next year to film a documentary on the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy – and he’s asked people in the town for their help.
Tom, aged 21, is in the final year of his Broadcast Journalism course at Staffordshire University and his 15-minute Hurricane Sandy documentary is his dissertation project.
Tom said: “I’m heading out to the US in February to film the documentary and I want to find out how people have moved on after the hurricane. I’ll be interviewing locals, business owners and officials in New York City and New Jersey.”
Tom has asked people in the town with friends, family or business contacts in the US to get in touch so that he can be as prepared as possible before flying out to the States in February. You can email t.jwilliams@hotmail.co.uk or connect via social media: www.facebook.com/bigtomend or @t_jwilliams on Twitter.
Tom added: “I’m after anyone who has contacts in New Jersey state or in New York City. I’d ask anyone who gets in touch for details of their contacts, letting me get in touch with people over there. If a reader provides a contact over there, it doesn’t necessarily mean I’d interview them as such, I might just ask the contact if they know anyone in NYC/NJ who has a story to tell.”
Hurricane Sandy devastated parts of the Caribbean and Mid-Atlantic at the end of October, with particularly severe damage in New York and New Jersey. Its storm surge hit New York City on October 29th, flooding streets, tunnels and subway lines and cutting power in and around the city. Damage in the US is estimated at over $63 billion.
