Budding rock stars from Stone have the chance of winning thousands of pounds worth of kit if they enter a countywide competition.
Staffordshire Rocks is Staffordshire Performing Arts’ annual rock competition that that sees high school bands battle it out to become ‘Band of the Year’ and win an array of prizes.
This year, Blackstar Amps, the UK’s premier amplifier manufacturer, have donated a Blackstar amplifier and cab worth £1,000 to the overall winner of Staffordshire Rocks. Winners of the three regional heats will bag their school a limited edition mini stack worth around £700 each.
The deadline for applications is Friday 8th April – so move fast!
County Councillor Mike Lawrence, Cabinet Member for Children’s Wellbeing said: “I would really encourage new bands to enter; the experience will help them to develop and who knows maybe they’ll be the next big discovery.”
Heats will be held throughout May and June, at the Prince of Wales Centre, Cannock; Thomas Alleyne’s High School in Uttoxeter; and Wolstanton High School in Newcastle. The winning band, plus one runner-up from each heat, will make it through to the grand final at the Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford, along with three ‘wildcard’ entries.
Bands of any ability are encouraged to enter the competition. To enter, bands must attend school in Staffordshire, and have an endorsement from their school. Application forms are available at schools, or from Staffordshire Performing Arts direct at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/spa, where there is more information about the competition.
