The Stone Independents group are looking to take control of Stone Town Council from the Conservative Party on 7th May. Here are the group’s pledges for the town council election.

Who we are:
Local residents with business, public sector and voluntary sector backgrounds committed to working for the benefit of the town and its residents. We believe residents are best represented by independent-minded individuals from the community rather than mainstream political parties whose loyalties often lie elsewhere.
Our vision for Stone:
- A thriving town offering a good quality of life and a strong sense of community
- A well known leisure destination recognised for its festivals, markets and other events and admired for its parks and canal and river setting
- A preferred location for inward investment from both private and public sectors.
What we will do:
Developing the town
Develop a strong Neighbourhood Plan to underpin local development
Improve the appearance of the town centre
Assess and improve town centre parking
Help develop a sustainable and diverse high street economy
Protect Stone’s green spaces
Improving leisure and tourism
Support festivals, markets and other events
Encourage a range of new events
Realise the potential of the canal and river setting
Improve the town’s parks
Promote the town as a leisure destination
Make Stone ‘good to stop and good to shop’
Building partnerships
Support and link our community groups
Build productive relationships with local businesses
Encourage investment in improved medical facilities
Work productively with county and borough authorities
Increasing investment
Invest council tax receipts in improvement of the town
Ensure money received from new homes bonuses is invested in Stone
Support delivery of improved leisure facilities on Westbridge Park
Improve facilities for children, young adults, and senior citizens
