Tributes paid to ‘Mustang Keith’

Tributes have been paid to Stone musician ‘Mustang Keith’, who has sadly passed away.

Keith was a familiar face at both Ben Owen and Paul Walker’s open mic nights, and an accomplished harmonica player.  One of his favourite numbers to perform was the classic Mustang Sally, which earned him the nickname ‘Mustang Keith’.

Former Stone resident Phil Mitchell, who often snapped Keith in action at the town’s music festivals, recalls:  “Keith was a very friendly and nice chap, always had time to stop and talk about music. He was a crowd pleaser at the festivals too, and always went down well with the audience in the town. He will be missed around Stone for his contribution to the music scene. Rock on Mustang Keith.”

Paul Walker commented “For all the great music nights to come, it’ll never be the same again. You’ll be missed Keith.”

Formula frontman Dave Williams remembers Keith with fond affection:  “One Sunday at The Red Lion, Keith joined The Footprints band  at the beginning of the second set. He had badgered me all week about doing a couple of numbers on vocals and harmonica. He stepped forward after the big build up, fell straight over the wedge monitor, almost put his head through the Kick drum skin, shot straight to his feet as if it never happened and played a blinder. RIP Keith.”

“Legend”, “the one and only”, and “what a nice guy he was, will be truly missed” are just some further examples of the praise lavished on Keith since the sad news was announced.

Here’s a video from Stone’s Website Video Agency recorded just last year, featuring Keith’s legendary harmonica playing, as he accompanies Paul Walker on a track called Walking The Dog…

RIP Keith.
