Two new charity shops for Stone High Street

Inside the former post office on the High Street on Saturday

The former post office building in Stone High Street is going to be a Children’s Society charity shop.

And Cats Protection Stafford & District will be moving into a separate empty unit very soon too.

Work has been going on in the empty post office for the last couple of weeks and the charity advertised for a manager in January (deadline has passed for the vacancy now, by the way).

Not sure when the charity shop will be opening yet.

It also emerged at the weekend that Cats Protection Stafford and District will also be taking on a different empty shop in the town. They posted on their Facebook page on Friday: “It is looking more and more positive that our Branch will soon be opening a shop in Stone. This will be such an exciting new venture. We will need saleable goods so please, if you are having a clear out, think of us.”

The charity could not confirm which empty unit they are moving in to until contracts have been signed. More information as soon as we get it.

There were lots of comments on our Facebook page over the weekend on the news of the new charity shops – almost all of them against more charity shops in the High Street. One simply said: “Charity begins at Stone.” Click ‘comments’ in the Facebook box below to see what was said…

And there have been LOTS more today…

What do you think? Are there too many charity shops in Stone? The two new ones will see nine charity shops in the High Street. Leave a comment here on the website, email news@alittlebitofstone.com or connect via our Twitter or Facebook accounts.

Far too many charity shops already. People will have no interest in shopping in stone. The town is completely ruined now compared to how it used to be. With all the new construction due in Walton and Yarnfield it would be an ideal time to start marketing the town to attract new businesses. Currently we can get fruit and veg, cash, second clothes, dine out and greetings cards (wow!!). What about decent food (waitrose,m &s food), a franchise take away (KFC, McDonalds), something for teenagers, a cinema, the list goes on. For those who think this would spoil the town, hasn’t it already happened with the various construction projects over the last 20 years, so why not let the town catch up now to service it’s residents.

  • I have served 7 customers at this point today (4.15pm).  If people want a vibrant town of viable businesses then they need to support them.  Remember – its illegal to trade at a loss!

  • I think it’s terrible who on earth needs all these charity shops we need normal shops …. All you can do in stone high street now is have a coffee go for a pint or something to eat and visit one of the 9 charity shops!!!! We have nothing!!!

    • Hi Tina. I think there are lots of great local businesses in the town centre – and lots to be really positive about! However, I share your concerns at the growing number of charity shops…
