The countdown is on to the return of Stone Town Council’s annual Christmas Lights Switch on!
Last year the popular event was unable to go ahead due to Covid restrictions, so the switch on was broadcast online on the ALBOS Facebook page. We had such good feedback from people watching the video that we’re once again planning to live stream the festive staple!
Compered by Samantha Lloyd, the event, on the 25th November, gets underway at 5pm with a variety of entertainment leading up to the main event – the turning on of the lights will be at 7pm.
The focus this year will be on local young people, who will provide most of the entertainment and help to turn on the lights.
The lights will be switched on by the Town Mayor, Councillor Jonathan Powell, and of course, Father Christmas. They will be joined by the winners of the Mayor’s Christmas Card competition which sees pupils from local schools designing Christmas Cards.
The Christmas Lights switch-on is the biggest event to take place in Stone High Street, so make sure you get into town early to claim a good spot.
The ALBOS Facebook live stream will start shortly before the switch on, and feature a special intro video created by the team behind last year’s video.
The ever-popular Warwick’s Funfair will be set up in the Market Square and down the High Street,
and there will be food stalls, trade stalls, and charity stalls with all manner of things to buy and win.
Councillor Jill Hood, Chairman of the Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, told A Litte Bit of Stone:
“I love this time of year when the town is lit up with Christmas trees and lights.
Our Christmas light switch-on event is hugely popular and once again we will be putting on a fantastic show with Father Christmas turning up for the children and a full programme of performances on the stage.”
“There’s something for every age group to enjoy and the Christmas season will be well and truly welcomed by our town.”
Head over to the Facebook event for the switch on and mark yourself as going to be notified of more details for the live stream!
