Stone photographer Phil Mitchell captured this mysterious shape in the sky over Stone at sunset on Thursday – do you have any idea what it is?
Phil took the photos from his home on the Aston Lodge estate looking towards Walton at about 4.15pm. He says the shape was in the sky for a few seconds and then disappeared.
Cue The X Files music…

We have a horse on Aston lodge stables and my Wife regularly phones from there saying ” I can see a bright light (in the direction of Walton) with haze around it!! it blinks on for a few seconds, then off, then reappears in a different position a few times then goes!! she is convinced its a UFO.

My husband and friend saw a strange orange shape in the sky, back in the summer- we’re on the Whitebridge estate; they saw it towards the south of the town – they thought it was a helicopter but there was no noise or flashing light. This was around 9.30 in the eve and was backed up by another Stone resident. Submitted it to the following website- https://www.uk-ufo.co.uk/2010/04/stone-staffordshire-24th-april-2010/#comments

It was also seen by residents in Sandbatch heading North….

Looking through my other shots from the same night I found another picture of the object from a different angle taken just a few moments before the picture above.
I have uploaded the new picture to my facebook page.

It looks like a small cloud to me. The photographer says it was only there for a moment, thus lending to the fact that the small cloud just melted away.

It’s a lens flare. Look at the orientation of the sun to the ‘mysterious object’. I would presume its a diffraction through the leaves of the tree causing it.

Only just found this post but hey-ho :P. It won;t be a lens flare because why would the photographer document an event like this that can only be seen through the lens – in other words, a photographer spots something then photographs it

Yeah, it’s strange isn’t it?? Sure there’s an explanation but who knows what it is! I agree – beautiful sunset pic 🙂

Nobody will ever believe a ‘proper’ UFO sighting ever again because of these damned Chinese lanterns seen drifting across the evening skies most evenings!
On a serious note, the thin wires in them are said to be a potential danger to livestock after they’ve fallen back to ground (the lanterns – not the livestock!) . So if you’re buying any lanterns, make sure they are made of bamboo and not wire. Still a hazard but, I am told, not as dangerous.
