The manager of the Cancer Research UK charity shop in Stone has made an urgent plea for more help after she was forced to close the shop for a couple of days due to a lack of volunteers.
The High Street shop was closed on Monday 31st and Monday 24th October and may well be closed on Mondays for the near future unless more volunteers come forward.
Manager Liz Reynolds said: “We’re desperate for more volunteers to come and help out and we have lots of different roles.
“We need people who can work in the shop – on the shop floor and in the stock room – but also people who can help us to get cash donations on busy days in the town like farmers’ markets.
“We had lots of students helping out over the summer but they’ve obviously gone back to college and university now, so we’re really short of volunteers.
“I have a number of volunteers who I’m trying to juggle round the best I can but, unfortunately, we’ll probably have to close on Mondays for the foreseeable future until we get some new people to help us.”

Liz also appealed to people in the town for more donations of clothes and other items, saying that the recession has had a major impact on the number of donations to all charity shops.
She added: “People often donate items when they buy something new and they give away their old item. If people are tightening the purse strings, then there’s not going to be as many donations.”
