VE celebrations bring history to life at Christ Church First School

Children enjoyed a day of learning, remembrance and cupcakes to mark Victory in Europe Day.

Pupils at Christ Church First School marked Victory in Europe Day on 8th May with a day of remembrance and celebration.

The day began with a special assembly, where children learned about the events of World War Two and the significance of VE Day in 1945. Activities throughout the day helped bring the subject to life, finishing with cupcakes on the playground provided by the PTFA.

The school also welcomed a visit from Councillor Jill Hood, who presented Lauren Goodman with a prize for winning the Stone VE Day bunting competition. Lauren was unable to attend the evening celebration in town, so the school took the opportunity to recognise her achievement during the daytime event. Her bunting is now proudly displayed around town, with a few pieces kindly gifted to the school for display.

Staff praised the children for their enthusiasm, with many speaking confidently about the importance of the armed forces’ sacrifice, both in the past and today.
