Victory for Stone school football teams!

The Walton Priory Middle School Year 7 girls’ team

Stone schools put in great performances to win boys’ and girls’ five-a-side football tournaments last week and now go on to represent the borough at the county finals in February.

The Futsal competition for Year 7 pupils was organised by the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership and saw Christchurch Academy boys and Walton Priory Middle girls taking the title.

Tuesday saw the boys battle it out at Weston Road Academy in Stafford, with nine teams entering the competition.

Each match saw five mintutes of intense action. Group 1 was extremely close, with Blessed William Howard boys coming out on top after winning all their matches and only conceding one goal in the process. Walton Priory Middle School came a close second in the group after narrowly losing 2-1 to Blessed William Howard. In Group 2, Christ Church Academy finished top without conceding a single goal.

The final match-up saw group winners Blessed William Howard and Christchurch Academy compete. After a very cagey affair, Christ Church were victorious with a 1-0 victory. Christchurch now go forward to represent the SSP in the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent finals in February.

The girls’ tournament saw six teams competing in a group play-off. Walton Priory went undefeated and will also represent the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership in the county finals.

Steve Glover, SSP partnership development manager, said: “I was again thrilled with the numbers taking part. It was great to have 15 teams taking part in a Year 7 event. Many thanks to Staffordshire FA and Weston Road for the help and organisation. I would also like to wish Christchurch Academy and Walton Priory good luck in the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent finals.”
