Virtual brewery for real ale fans

Ever dreamed of brewing that perfect pint, exactly how you want it? Now you have the chance! Lymestone Brewery has teamed up with the Best of British Beer to offer real ale fans a chance to become ‘virtual’ brewers.

People who sign up will be able to make all the key decisions during the brewing process – which will then be put into action at the Stone brewery. Voting will be held online each week to choose the beer’s colour, strength, style, flavour, name and even label design. Once produced, the beers will be labelled featuring the name of everybody who’s bought a share and sold on the Best Of British Beer website.

For an initial investment of a tenner, redeemable against the finished beers, all the Virtual Brewers will be able to decide exactly how the finished product will taste – and take part in the UK’s first virtual brewery.

Brad from Lymestone Brewery

Ian ‘Brad’ Bradford, head brewer at Lymestone Brewery, said: “The brewing process can take up to six weeks and there are a number of key decisions to be made along the way. The possible variations on a standard glass of beer are almost limitless and this is where we need people’s input, whether it’s a different combination of hops, the use of roasted barley or even the addition of honey and fruit to the brewing process.”

Will Sherwin, managing director at Best Of British Beer, added: “People are turning their backs on mass produced and imported lagers in favour of more local ales with quality ingredients made in the traditional way. We’ve had the idea of ‘a beer brewed by the people, for the people’ bouncing around our heads and as soon as we knew Ian and Viv from Lymestone were keen to get involved, we simply had to get it started. Our ultimate aim is to produce a beer than we can enter into beer festival competitions and hopefully be recognised as an award winner.”
