British Waterways is looking for people to become volunteer lock keepers on canals in Stone.
Volunteers would welcome visitors, help boaters through locks and maintain the surrounding area.
British Waterways, which is soon to become the Canal and River Trust, is responsible for 2,000 miles of waterways in England and Wales.
Ed Moss, national volunteering manager for British Waterways, said: “The waterways are a national treasure and need looking after. Our volunteers have been able to provide so many additional benefits on top of the fantastic work our own staff carry out and are really making a difference.
“The key qualities we’re looking for are enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Whether it’s helping a boat through the lock, talking to customers, litter picking or undertaking vegetation works, it can really make a great difference to a visitor’s appreciation of the waterways.”
The appeal in the West Midlands is part of a campaign across England and Wales to find volunteers for 61 sites, including Stone. It is being backed by actor Brian Blessed said he had loved canals and rivers ever since a child.
A full induction and training will be given to volunteers.
