Exploratory works are due to start on Walton Roundabout, and its feeder roads, on Monday, the 16th January. These works are the precursor to the major resurfacing scheme that’s due to start on the roundabout in April 2023.
Staffordshire County Council’s highways teams will be carrying out works atThe Fillybrooks/Walton Roundabout, the A520 Stafford Road and the B5026 Eccleshall Road.
The exploratory works are ahead of a major resurfacing scheme in April, part of a multi-million-pound investment by the county council into improving eight major gateways into the county’s towns.
The work is expected to take around two weeks to complete and will include extensive drainage cleaning, along with detailed surveys of the road surface and excavation of trial holes.
Roadwork plans for the week commencing 16th January
To ensure the scheme can be carried out safely, overnight works will start on Monday 16th January for 5 nights with a road closure of the B5026 Eccleshall Road, and lane closures of the A34 The Fillybrooks/Walton Roundabout and A520 Stafford Road. The B5026 Eccleshall Road will be closed from the A34 to Tilling Drive from 8pm to 6am each night.
A diversion will be in place via the A34, A51, A519 through Eccleshall, B5026 to Stone and vice versa.
Roadwork plans for the week commencing 23rd January
From Monday 23rd January temporary lane closures will then be in place during day times until Friday 27th January.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Well maintained roads are important for residents, motorists and of course the economy and it is important to invest in keeping them safe and well maintained.
“These important exploratory works need to be done ahead of resurfacing improvements planned for later in April which will help to prolong the life of the road.
“For the safety of crews and road users, a combination of temporary overnight road closures and day time lane restrictions are necessary. Any vehicles requiring access through the road closure to access their properties should also take extra care whilst driving within the works area. As ever, Our crews will be doing everything they can to minimise any inconvenience and I would like to thank people in advance for their co-operation.”

Perhaps the powers-that-be could allow the legitimate use of the Walton bus gate from 8pm-6am, to save folks long detours and save fuel and time ?
