Warning over electric blankets

Anyone who has had a free electric blanket from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service since 2009 has been urged to check the model as a small number of them can potentially overheat and catch fire.

Morphy Richards are recalling their single over electric blankets (model number 75310) and double dual control electric blankets (model number 75312).

The blankets can potentially develop a fault which may cause the blanket to overheat and catch fire. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were supplied the blankets by Morphy Richards for their annual electric blanket campaign and a small number of the affected models have been given out around Staffordshire.

Head of risk reduction Glynn Luznyj said: “We believe 10 of the affected 75310 models were handed out in Staffordshire since September 2009 and encourage anyone with an electric blanket matching this model to contact Morphy Richards. We haven’t handed out any of the 75312 model but if you own any Morphy Richards electric blankets please double-check the model number just in case.

“The people who would have received a free blanket from us will be living in Staffordshire and over the age of 60 so if you have any relatives, friends or neighbours who you know have received a free electric blanket from us please ask them to check the model number or do this for them if you can.

“Even if you don’t think anything is wrong with your blanket, if it is either of the affected models please contact Morphy Richards and stop using the item immediately.”

Morphy Richards can be contacted on 01709 572570 Monday to Friday or email blankets@morphyrichards.co.uk

  • Maybe should be plug it into wall socket for to get warm. Just unplug it when getting hot or going to use. I think this is safe suggestion for fire prevention.
