What questions would you put to the candidates who’ll be up for election in Stone on 5th May?
A Little Bit of Stone will be putting a list of questions to local candidates in the run-up to polling day – and we need your help. What questions do you want answered? What issues need addressing in your little bit of Stone?
Stafford Borough Council published its notice of elections earlier this month and prospective candidates now have until 12pm on Monday 4th April to submit their nomination papers.
The list of candidates will be published at noon on Wednesday 6th April – and our questions, some generic to the whole town and some ward-specific, will be submitted to each candidate in the following council wards:
STAFFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL
- Barlaston & Oulton
- St Michael’s ward
- Stonefield & Christchurch ward
- Swynnerton
- Walton ward
STONE TOWN COUNCIL
- St Michael’s ward
- Stonefield & Christchurch ward
- Walton ward
There are other parish councils nearby – Stone Rural, Fulford, Barlaston, Hilderstone and Swynnerton – but we’ll just be focusing on Stone Town Council. If you think that’s wrong, let us know and we’ll include others!
Post your questions below, or send an email to elections@alittlebitofstone.com

I would like to hear from every candidate for the Town Council precisely what they intend to do with the Frank Jordan Centre. There is an offer on the table from the Borough Council to hand over the freehold to the TC. There are several proposals – to refurbish the premises, demolish and rebuild or do nothing. Come on, let’s here the candidates views

I am extremely concearned about the future of the Frank Jordan Centre as I live in the old Headmaster’s house which is attached to the right hand side of the building.
I think even the possiblity of demolition of this historic building is a discrace.
It is regularly used by all sorts of community groups and would not cost £400,000 to refurbish as suggested! So come on people of Stone, speak up and save an iconic building before it is too late!

We already have a community facility at the Frank Jordon Centre which is the Den – the only Youth Cafe in this area – but its future is in danger because the rent charged by the Town Council is too much, particularly given the benefit that it provides to the town by a number of busy people who give their time voluntarily. The current Council have declined to respond to our requests to reconsider this. We now only have enough money to pay for the next two months of rent
AT OUR AGM last night (Friday 22 April), TRUSTEES DECIDED TO INVITE PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES FOR BOTH THE TOWN AND THE BOROUGH TO COME ALONG TO A SPECIAL OPEN MEETING AT THE DEN NEXT THURSDAY EVENING (28th April) at 6PM to see what the Den has to offer and to discuss with its Trustees and Young People how the Council will support us after the election
SO – COME ALONG PROSPECTIVE COUNCILLORS – Show your commitment to the young people in the town

Interesting move Steve. Let us know how you get on. I’ll pop in myself if that’s OK

My question would be-In view of the fact that the Town Council have levied such large tax increases, last years being 50% what in the last four years do the people of Stone have to show for it.
Would they agree that the money spent on the hole in the ground laughingly referred to as an amphitheatre has been a total waste of taxpayers money. Press photos of the rare events only show the artists presumably as there is no large audience.
