Where’s the best sledging spot in Stone?

The snow is coming down as I type and, with lots more forecast overnight and tomorrow, it’s time to get those sledges out! But where’s the best spot in Stone? Thanks to everyone on Facebook and Twitter who sent their favourite places. Some great memories in there too! And huge thanks to Nick Sigley for the photo above of children (including Nick) sledging on the slopes of Walton Priory Middle School in the early 80s – a popular sledging hotspot (or should that be coldspot) in Stone!

Walton Priory Middle, watch out for the bump at the bottom left and the school building to the right!! A tin tray and good friends! (Pamela Bailey)

There’s a hill near Meaford Lock with a stream at the bottom. I remember sledging there. You had to roll off before the stream. Also the field just beyond Airdale Spinney down the foot path. Many happy times there – especially before Airdale Spinney was built. Oh and at the top of Oulton Heath. No hills where I live now – London. Sigh (Tim Jones)

Downs Banks, Barlaston side, where the Upper House Hotel is. Walk over two fields and you’ll find a dead big hill. Everyone goes! (Mandy Webb)
