Womble on fire to sweep away Leek!

Stone 1st X1’s opening bowler David Womble was on fire against Leek. Taking a magnificent 7 for 33, he helped his side to a 4 wicket victory against the previous unbeaten league leaders.

Captain Richard Harvey, won the toss and inserted the hosts. Womble then struck and had Leek wobbling on 83 for 7. Calum Price bowled 22 overs from the other end and deserved more than his one scalp. A tail-end recovery, helped the home side recover to 173 for 9 at the end of their 55 overs.

In reply, openers Luke Cheadle (32) and James Dawson (21) started the chase, then a clatter of key wickets followed.

At 87 for 6, it looked that Stone were for not the first time this season going to squander a strong start.

James Ecclestone had different ideas and a gutsy innings of 58, supported by 29 from Russ Ballard, helped their side across the line. Twenty points helped Stone climb to 6th in the table. This week they travel to Cheadle

Revill plays in the Park

Stone SP 1st X1 travelled to Fenton and secured another 20 points and 5th place in the league.

Captain Podmore won the toss and chose to field. He led the way with the ball, picking up 3 for 48, while Lee James 3 for 22 and Adam Pursell 3 for 61 helped restrict Meir Heath Fenton to 197.

John Seabridge with 111 not out, was the mainstay in the hosts’ total.

In reply, in form Jason Revill supported by Michael Perry made the run chase an easy task. Revill scoring 102, whilst Perry picked up 58. This week, the side welcome Endon to Swynnerton Park.

Stone 2nd’s go top

Stone 2nd’s who play in Championship Division 1B eased to another victory and now top the table. Visitors Rode Park and Lawton were asked to bat first. Sam Bamford with 6 for 34 and Steve Young 3 for 32 were too strong for the batsmen. Rode Park were dismissed for a lowly 84.

James Sutton, followed up his century from last week with 37 not out. Ian Banks with 32 helped Stone ease to the total in the 26th over, for the loss of only 2 wickets. This week they welcome 2nd place Silverdale to Lichfield Road for a fixture that could shape the season.

Stone SP 2nds lose out in thriller

Stone SP 2nds came out second in a thriller against Meir Heath Fenton at Swynnerton Park.

The visitors batted first and amassed a daunting 248 for the loss of just 6 wickets. For Stone Chris Lindop and Ash Jones picked up two wickets each. In reply, Stone ended up on the losing end by just one run.

Opener Gareth Jones with 50 led the way with Richard Chandler supporting him with 31. Father and Son partnership of Hylton Bennett (76) and youngster Nathan Bennett (51) put their side in sight of victory.

A tumble of late wickets denied Derek Price’s side of a much needed win. This week they travel to Oulton.
