World record attempt by canoe club

Stafford and Stone Canoe Club will be attempting a world record after Christmas to raise funds to complete their new clubhouse on Westbridge Park.

Work on the new clubhouse is now in progress but the club needs to raise £10,000 to get the job finished. The club is home to a number of gold medallists and UK and world champions, and it wants to ensure that some of its members are at the 2012 Olympics in London. The new clubhouse is a huge part of their plans,

On 22nd and 23rd January club members will be attempting a 24-hour canoe slalom in Stone to raise funds. The club has already raised £1,620 through donations, raffles and a bag-pack at Morrisons.

On 26th November there’s a quiz night at Little Stoke Cricket Club and there’s lots of other fundraising events planned. But the showpiece fundraising effort is the record-breaking attempt in January.

The club’s old timber building had been built in the 1970s and just wasn’t suitable any longer. The new building at the site in Westbridge Park will include a boat storage area, changing facilities, gym and kitchen area. Find out more about the club’s fundraising efforts here
