As part of a campaign to reduce the number of mobile phone thefts, Staffordshire Police has put the second of a series of video clips on their YouTube site.
Thieves see a mobile as a cash opportunity and the video clip shows it takes only seconds to steal one. Some top phones can cost up to £500. To see the video clip visit https://bit.ly/MobilePARK
Young people can be at risk as thieves know more and more pupils and students have mobile phones and mobile data devices.
Chief Inspector Martin Brereton said: “Using a mobile phone while walking out and about makes everyone vulnerable to being threatened and having it stolen.
“We are urging everyone to be aware and take a few simple precautions to reduce that risk.”
- Avoid walking on your own. Instead walk with friends or near a group of people going in the same direction. If you are on your own, vary your route to stop a thief knowing your routine and lying in wait.
- Be aware of who is around you when out and about. Look confident and know exactly where you are going.
- Keep your mobile hidden on your person but not in a back pocket where it can be visible.
People are urged to register their phone and mobile data devices for free on wwww.immobilise.com for the best chance of getting it back if lost or stolen. You just need your IMEI number which can be found by dialling *#06# and serial numbers for your other devices. If police recover lost or stolen property they check the database and can return the item to the rightful owner.
Keep you and your mobile safe.
