Youngsters march for St George

St George's Day parade 3

Scouts and Beavers from across Stone took part in a special parade on Sunday (26th April) to mark St George’s Day.

Youngsters marched from Market Square to St Michael’s Church, where a service was led by Dennis Abbott, himself a leader at Aston Beavers. The parade was led by Stone Scout and Guide Band.

Bandmaster Kerry Dawson said: “St George’s Day parade is an annual parade that takes place on the nearest Sunday to St George’s Day itself. St George is the patron saint of scouting so as you can imagine this is a very important date in the calendar for us.At the moment, the band has a number of members who are new recruits, most of whom only joined at Christmas, for whom this was their first parade. It takes an enormous amount of commitment and concentration to learn how to march, or how to play an instrument, so doing the two things together is an enormous achievement!”

Stone Scout and Guide Band practice at The Pump House on Westbridge Park on Saturday mornings from 10am until noon. New members aged eight and over are always welcome from the local Scouting and Guiding movements. Email Kerry at kerry.dawson@live.co.uk or connect via the band Facebook page HERE
