Fire service appeal over flooding

The fire service has urged people in Stone and across Staffordshire to only report flooding to them if people’s lives are at risk. The appeal has been made to help keep emergency lines free for serious incidents.

A spokesman said this afternoon: “We urge people to monitor warnings given by the Environment Agency and avoid driving in areas where there is localised flooding. Residents are also reminded that the fire service does not provide sandbags. Enquiries should be directed to local councils.”

Flash floods have made some roads in and around Stone unpassable, including the road to Yarlet from Stone. Others – including Stafford Road and Lichfield Road – are passable with extreme care. Trentside Clinic has been cut off by the floods and The Star flooded. St Michael’s First School, meanwhile, closed early.
