Autumn ball for Stone Bells Appeal

Organisers of a charity which needs to raise £75,000 to install new bells at St Michael’s Church are holding a charity autumn ball in October.

Stone Bells Appeal’s ball takes place on Saturday 20th October at 7pm at the Crown Hotel. Tickets are £35, which includes dinner, entertainment, dancing and entry into a raffle. There will also be an auction. Tickets are available from Helen Smith at or by calling 01785 815767.

The bells date back to 1710 and the wooden frame on which they hang is probably much older. Because of wear, they can no longer be re-tuned and need to be replaced. The Stone Bells Appeal will have the current bells recast as a new ring of eight and hung in a new metal frame. But £75,000 has to be raised to carry out this vital work and to make sure that the church bells will be ringing out over Stone for generations to come.

There’s lots more information at the Stone Bells Appeal website.
