Hundreds of new homes will be built in Walton after a development was given the green light.
Stafford Borough Council’s planning committee gave the go-ahead on 7th January to Hallam Land Management’s plan for around 500 homes at land to the west of Longhope Drive.
Eight councillors voted in favour, with one against. Walton councillor Mike Williamson abstained. Approval is subject to 40 per cent of the development being affordable housing and the applicant is also required to make financial contributions for open space, sport and recreational facilities, highway improvements and education.

An application on behalf of David Wilson -112 new houses and Taylor Wimpey 92 houses has also been submitted these are proposed for across the road from the 500 new homes development on the other side of the Eccleshall road There are also new houses to be built on Tilling Drive. The inspector for the Stafford plan’s public examination said 1000 new homes must be built in Stone NOT 800 as originally proposed. Why are all the allocation of new homes proposed for Walton what about other areas in Stone? Hallam Land Mangement has said it will give a free bike to the 500 new homes so don’t worry this will alleviate any traffic problems. (Good to see they have a sense of humour). Councillor Mike Williamson declared an interest in the 500 planning application at Stone Town Council planning meeting of which he is chairman and left the room He then sat on the same planning application at Stafford Borough Councils planning committee to hear and vote on the proposed 500 development, and then abstained at the vote, WHY?

Remember Walton voters council elections in 2015 get the SELFservatives out.
Mike Williamson and the other Tory town and borough councillors have represented the needs of the conservative party NOT the wishes of their electorate.
This follows on from trying to sell of Westbridge park for a supermarket. That debacle has cost the taxpayers thousands already.

It’s in the councils interest to have these houses. They get 500 more council tax, roads and school’s extended for nothing. They don’t care about us waiting in traffic jams or not being able to get a doctors appointment. That’s how it is these days.
Councillor Mrs Jill Hood
They also get a NEW HOMES BONUS for each new house built for the next 6 years. I believe it’s called a nice little earner! The amount for affordable homes increases per house built.

This outline approval does not appear to have taken into account the serious problems with flooding in Eccleshall Road Foxwood Close and Lamb Lane to which we have been subject to for many years. Lamb Lane( open brook) was flooded all Christmas and New Year due to the Council never clearing the Brook or the Grids. To supply cycles or provide a bus route does not solve the problem of traffic build up as people do not tend to use a bus or cycles and then the service is very quickly withdrawm . The only councillor voting against does not live in Stone but appears to have a better grasp of the issues involved.
Shame only our local representatives once again!!! Do they Happened to me on numerous occasions last year ever have need to make a GP appointment which DOES take up to one month to arrange

Absolutely ridiculous. You already have to queue from longhope drive to the roundabout at rush hour, it takes around 20 minutes from Walton to get into stone between 8.15 and 9.15 in a morning. The doctors are already full to capacity, never heard such rubbish -not enough thought being given to this application-without the affects on traffic/education/doctors/dentisist etc

500 New houses means more cars using the already busy Walton / A34 roundabout twice a day at the rush hours.

Walton councillor MIke Williamson abstained. If he had any courage he would have voted against the development and represented the people who voted for him. He abstained because he knew the vote would be won and it makes him look less bad. What happened to conviction politicians?
