Food waste collections are now under way in Stone and across Stafford Borough, but some households may still be waiting for their new caddies to arrive.

The new weekly service began on Monday 13 April 2026, with food waste now being collected alongside residents’ usual bin rounds – both green and blue/brown. Around 60,000 properties across the borough have been issued with a small indoor kitchen caddy, a larger outdoor kerbside caddy and a starter roll of liners.
But if your household has not received them, Stafford Borough Council says you should get in touch.
In communication with A Little Bit of Stone, the council confirmed that residents who are still waiting for their food waste caddies should email info@staffordbc.gov.uk or call 01785 619402, and delivery arrangements will be made.
The one exception, at least for now, is some flats.
The council says flats that share a communal bin store are not included in the current rollout. Instead, internal food waste caddies and external communal bins for those properties are due to be introduced later, in May and June 2026.
For everyone else, the new service is now part of the normal bin routine.
The outdoor food waste caddy is collected alongside green, blue and brown bins, with no extra charge for the containers or the service itself. The scheme is part of a government funded change aimed at increasing how much household food waste is recycled.
Residents can use the caddies for items such as fruit and vegetable peelings, fish, meat and bones, tea bags, coffee grounds, eggs and dairy products.
Liquids, oils, fats, garden waste and food packaging should not be placed inside.
Once collected, the food waste is sent for processing at an anaerobic digestion plant, where it can be turned into energy. Material left over from the process can then be used to help improve soil in agriculture.
Councillor Ian Fordham, Stafford Borough Council’s cabinet member for environment, said the move was a major change to waste and recycling services and had been funded by central government.
If your neighbours have their caddies and you do not, the council says to contact them directly so delivery arrangements can be made.
For people living in flats with shared bin stores, the wait will be a little longer.
