A fundraising campaign is under way to raise £50,000 so that a Stone mum with cancer can get vital treatment to spend as much time as possible with her eight-year-old son.
The treatment that Helen Hutchinson desperately needs to prolong her life isn’t currently available on the NHS. A Just Giving donation page has so far raised over £2,000, but a lot more money is needed so that Helen can receive private treatment – which costs almost £2,000 per fortnight.
Helen was diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago. After treatment on the NHS, it was discovered that the cancer had spread to her lungs. In August this year, Helen faced the devastating news that NHS treatment had been exhausted and there was nothing more that could be done.
The fundraising campaign for the extra treatment has been started by Helen’s friend Julie Hope after she found out that Helen was going to sell her home to fund the treatment.
[box type=”shadow” ]She said: “Helen is my angel on Earth. She is so giving and happy and when you meet her she lights up a room with her infectious smile and kind loving heart that just shines through. She never moans, she just gets on with life. When you’re a parent, you don’t think that you will never see your child grow and progress through all their milestones in life. Without this alternative treatment, Helen will lose out on these memories that we all love and cherish.[/box]
[box type=”shadow” ]”I ask everyone in Stone to support me in raising money for a young child that needs his mother and to enable them to seek the relevant treatment without any financial worries. Being diagnosed with cancer is hard enough without having financial troubles to worry about too.”[/box]
A fundraising football match is being held on 21st November to raise even more money for the cause. There’s more information and regular updates on the Helen’s Lifeline Facebook page.
