A brother-and-sister dynamic duo helped Christchurch Academy to a flying start in this year’s Stafford and District Cross Country League.
Jasmine and Harrison Lovatt won the girls’ and boys’ events for their school in the first of four races in this year’s under-11 competition.
Christchurch girls are the reigning champions, with Jasmine winning all four races last year. Christchurch boys were squeezed into second place by Stafford Grammar School last year, but with Harrison joining the team this year, they’re hoping to go one better this time round.
The four races take place at Shugborough, Birches Valley, Cannock Chase and here in Stone. The next race will be at Stone’s Common Plot on Tuesday 8th March, starting at 4.30pm.
Jasmine and Harrison both run for Cannock and Stafford Athletics Club. Jasmine also plays cricket for Staffordshire and Stone SP, with Harrison playing cricket for Staffordshire Central District and Stone SP, as well as rugby for Stoke RUFC.
In the cross-country race on Tuesday 23rd February, Jasmine led from the gun and finished the 2km course about 50m ahead of the field. Her team-mate Rebekah Yendole finished in third place. Harrison had a tougher time and was second for most of the race but he held his pace as the early leader weakened and he too finished about 50m ahead of the field.
Look out for them both in the 2024 Olympic Games!
