New Post Office to open in Stone High Street

Post Office CounterStone Town Council have today confirmed that a new High Street Post Office will be opening late summer 2018

Stone Town Council has issued the following press release:

Stone Town Council has been working closely with the Post Office since the closure of the Co-op was announced in order to return essential Post Office services to the High Street as soon as possible.

The Town Council are pleased to be able to confirm that this work has now produced successful results and it is expected that a new Post Office will open in Stone in September 2018. It will be located in the recently vacated Stone Pharmacy at 5-7 High Street.

Councillor Rob Kenney, Chairman of the Council’s General Purposes Committee, said:

“I’m pleased that the Council’s work with the Post Office has finally reached a successful outcome and we can look forward to the opening of a new Post Office in the High Street.
The Town Council will, of course, continue to fund the bus taking residents to nearby Post Offices until the new outlet has opened.”

Stone has been without a Post Office since the previous Post Office closed when the Co-op closed in January 2018. There are strict Post Office application processes to ensure that any new Post Office is sustainable and this has lead to a long lead time in securing a new replacement Post Office.

The Town Council began operating a free bus service on a Tuesday to help those Stone residents who weren’t able to make it to a nearby town or village to access Post Office services.

A Post Office spokesperson, said:
“We are delighted to announce that yesterday we successfully appointed as new Postmaster for Stone, which should allow us to restore Post Office services to Stone later this year. We will soon begin a public consultation to re-open the branch at the recently vacated Stone Pharmacy at 5-7 High Street. We are committed to restoring Post Office service to Stone as we know how important this service is to the community. In the meantime alternative branches include Yarnfield and Barlaston. A free Post Office bus service is also organised by Stone Town Council on a Tuesday to a nearby Post Office.”

The full addresses of alternative branches are:
· Yarnfield Post Office, Greenside, Yarnfield, Stone, ST15 0NA
· Barlaston Post Office, Station Road, Barlaston, Stoke-On-Trent, ST12 9DH

  1. Great news and obviously much needed. However,
just question the location in that the increase in pedestrians using the facility will make the crossing at the bottom of town more hazardous, may need addressing and where do any collection vehicles to the post office park as definately not at the front. In fact that whole corner is no longer fit for purpose. Just a thought!!
