Independent Stone opticians Peter Bowers invests in High Street facelift

Peter Bowers Optometrist, based on Stone High Street, have invested £50,000 on their practice making it more accessible for their customers.

The independent optometrist has been servicing Stone and the new facelift aims to make their practice more accessible for those with physical disabilities.

Previously, wheelchair users could not be examined as the only facilities were on the first floor, at the top of a flight of stairs.

Patients on the ground floor will now be treated to state-of-the-art compact eye examination technology, along with a new ramp and improved lighting. Customers to the practice have already seen the benefits of the new installations.

Alison Woodcock, Dispensing Optician and Director, told A Little Bit of Stone:

“We’ve already had six patients with restricted mobility use the facilities in the past two weeks alone, which is exactly what we wanted. We want to make sure that more residents of the local community can receive care that was previously unavailable to them.

“But it’s not just wheelchair users, patients who struggle with stairs, especially elderly customers, will now be able to receive the same standard of care as everyone else.

“We’re hoping this can lead to more members of the Stone community having better eye and hearing health, something my staff and I are really passionate about.”

The practice recently welcomed patients to view their new test room in an event celebration, which included a raffle which raised £145 for the Guide Dogs Association. The winner of the raffle, Mrs Fox, received a complementary pair of spectacles.

The opticians’ roots go back further than its establishment in 1985; Peter Bowers’ grandfather had a watch making and optical shop near Stone in the 1930s and Peter’s parents also ran independent optical practices in both Stone and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Peter Bowers offers both eye and ear care and employs six members of staff from their practice on Stone High Street.

They also stock a wide range of designer and budget frames for all ages and sizes, and also offer hearing aid services along with NHS and Private eye examinations.
