Charlie’s Cat Cafe opens its doors in Stone….and it’s purrrrrfect!

Charlie’s Cat Cafe opens its doors today and A Little Bit of Stone got privileged access last night to meet the cats and chat to the team behind the new cafe.

On a frosty November evening, we rang the doorbell of the former NatWest bank in Stone to see what lay behind. We’ve previously covered that Charlie’s Cat Cafe was coming to Stone so we were keen to see the transformation that had been made.

After reading the cat cafe rules we were taken through the airlock door system which ensures that the cats don’t accidentally escape.

Once it’s clear to enter we got to see inside Charlie’s Cat Cafe which feels spacious, modern and inviting! The public cafe space is split into 3 area’s, the large main hall where the service counter is, a small cosy front lounge which is the perfect place to hang out with a coffee, book and cat and then a compact space at the rear.  All areas feature a myriad of cat entertainment, including scratching posts, beds, climbing platforms and ball toys.

Throughout the cafe are dry cat food bowls and water dispensers and at all times the cats have access to a cat (and employee) only zone if they need to get away from the public or use their litter boxes.

We had a nice wander through the cafe and all of the cats seemed very relaxed and engaging. Lots of cuddles, belly rubs and purring ensued!

It was lovely to hear Anna Brookes talk about the inspiration that led to her opening the cafe and it was clear that she’s passionate about both the cats’ welfare and the cafe itself. A suggestion from Anna’s eldest daughter Liv and the amazing support from her younger daughter Darcy and husband Andy. Saw the ball rolling but the Anna’s best friend Karen Jones and her husband Mark have been instrumental in getting the cafe ready for opening and you could feel the family and friend vibe that the team have.

We wish Anna and the team all the best, Stone is full of passionate business owners and it’s great to see another one take residence in the High Street!

The cafe serves a variety of hot and cold drinks, homemade treats, soups, sandwiches and paninis – there should be something for everyone!

Cat Cafe’s have become increasingly popular in the UK and Stone now has its very own! Unlike other cat cafe’s Charlie’s Cat Cafe doesn’t charge an entrance fee unless you are making a pre-booked reservation so walk-in customers are welcome.

For insurance purposes, there’s a minimum age of 6 years old for children so be mindful if you’re visiting with little ones.

I wondered why children under 6 years could not be admitted for insurance reasons. Is it because of the risk of zoonotic diseases? In which case, other vulnerable people should be warned.

Suspect it’s because they maul and harass the cats too much.
