This year’s Stone bonfire and fireworks event has been cancelled as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Following many discussions, the voluntary committee members who organise the popular event on Westbridge Park say the Covid-19 pandemic means it is not possible to stage it this year.
Stone bonfire committee chairman Richard Stevens told A Little Bit of Stone:
“The annual bonfire and fireworks in Stone have been a firm fixture in the town’s calendar for decades, so we’re hugely disappointed not to deliver it this year.
However, the logistics of putting effective social distancing measures in place, not to mention the uncertainty around future lockdowns and restrictions, means that it’s just not possible to stage the event this year.
All being well, we look forward to bringing the event back in 2021.”
The annual event has always drawn big crowds to Westbridge Park, however with the existing and now tightening regulations the 2020 event has been cancelled.
Over the years the bonfire committee has raised thousands of pounds for local charities and community groups and ALBOS hope that for 2021 the event can come back bigger and better!
