A drop-in event is being held in Stone on Wednesday 29th January for local people to find out more about a new scheme that will see £6m invested in improving the A34 as part of wider plans to regenerate the former Meaford power station site.
Staffordshire County Council says the investment will support the transformation of the largest undeveloped brownfield site in the county into a business park and create around 2,500 new jobs.
Developer St Modwen already has planning permission to regenerate the Meaford Major Employment Site and the scheme will see access improved by the building of a new roundabout and a second junction to serve the park.
Residents have the chance to fine out more about the scheme at a drop-in event, which will take place at the George & Dragon in Meaford View, Stone, from 3pm to 8pm on Wednesday 29th January.
Ian Parry, Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and county councillor for the area, said: “This is the largest undeveloped brownfield site in the county and as a county council we are committed to supporting plans to regenerate sites such as these which will help to create around 2,500 jobs for the people of Staffordshire.
“Together with the creation of the Redhill site and a further 2,500 jobs, the A34 is fast becoming its own corridor for growth in Staffordshire. These improvements will not only allow access to the site but will ease congestion and help improve road safety in the area by improving access to and from the A34. “The improvements will also help ease congestion and improve the safety of the area for residents locally and motorists using the A34.”
Staffordshire County Council has applied to the Department for Transport for Pinch Point funding for the scheme and a planning application is due to be submitted later in the year, with a view to the project starting in 2014/15 if approved.
Plans are also being drawn up for a new gas-fired power station in Meaford. More information HERE
