Christchurch Way car park to become all-day

Motorists will soon be able to stay all day on the Christchurch Way car park in Stone in a move designed to encourage shoppers to stay in the town for longer, and to provide more all-day parking for workers.

The borough council has previously only allowed motorists to stay for up to four hours – but from September the time limits will change to allow drivers to park all day. Prices for short stay will remain the same – and it will now be £3 for anyone staying more than four hours.

Councillor Frances Beatty, cabinet member for planning and regeneration, said: “We have made this change after listening to local views and the need to increase the choice for customers. This move will encourage people to stay in Stone as well as giving employees of local businesses the option of parking all day.”

The Stafford Borough Council run car park has 82 spaces and people can use their mobile phones to pay – which also avoids having to get back to replenish the meter if you decide to stay longer in town.

The new long-stay parking on Christchurch Way will start on 1 September. More details of borough council managed car parks can be found at www.staffordbc.gov.uk/parking
