Charitable or community organisations in Stafford Borough, including Stone, are now being invited to apply to receive refurbished bicycles of all kinds.
The news comes following last month’s announcement about a new partnership between Staffordshire Police, Stafford Borough Council and HMP/YOI Drake Hall.
In recent months, tens of stolen bikes have been recovered by officers from Stafford Borough Neighbourhood Policing Team as part of a major crackdown on theft and drugs related offences across the town.
Under the joint scheme, bikes that could not be identified and returned to their rightful owners have been donated to the Halford’s Academy at HMP/YOI Drake Hall where women serving custodial sentences have been learning how to repair, refurbish and service the bikes until they are as good as new.
The repaired and refurbished bikes can now be donated to charities and established community groups within Stafford Borough so that local communities can benefit from the venture.
Any charity that would like to apply for the reconditioned bikes should contact Chief Inspector Gemma Ward directly via email gemma.ward@staffordshire.pnn.
