Review: The Rocky Horror Show – It’s just a jump to the left!

Rocky Horror ShowIt was dress-up time at Hanley’s Regent Theatre as we were time-warped into the Rocky Horror Show!

With a story as bonkers as the outfits, Richard O’Brien’s 1975 Rocky Horror Show makes a fabulous transition from film into a full-on live musical theatre show.

We follow naive straightlaced couple Brad and Janet who happen upon transvestite Dr Frank N Furter’s crazy mansion.

Tim Curry’s Frank N Furter is played on stage by former Blue singer Duncan James who delivered a fabulous performance dressed up in fishnet stockings, corset and a scarily high pair of heels!

It’s always interesting to see how former pop stars make the leap into musical theatre but James had the opening night audience in the palm of his hand from the start to the finish!  He absolutely nailed his solo numbers in Frank N Furter’s signature over the top camp style.

The stage was shared with a brilliant and entertaining cast, former Strictly Come Dancing Glitter Ball winner Joanne Clifton playing the sweet and delightful Janet. Janet’s fiance Brad was played by James Darch and the whole show was narrated excellently by Steve Punt who was truly fantastic and did a great job replying to the hilariously funny interjections from the rowdy die-hard audience

Audience participation was to the absolute max, the audience shouted out in glee, danced and sang along right on cue, especially for the cult-classic Time Warp – which we were treated to twice!

The finale of the show almost lifted the roof of the theatre, such was the electricity and energy in the room!

The Rocky Horror Show is an absolute classic and something that everyone should experience! I had never seen the show before and absolutely loved it! In short, the cast is great, the show is brilliant and the experience is electric so grab those tickets, dress up to the max and head on down to The Regent Theatre where The Rocky Horror picture show will be wowing, amusing and teasing their audience until Saturday 8th June.

I think it’s on until July, not January? One of my favourite shows, nice to see Steve Punt making an appearance, “Milky Milky”.
