Local teen running 2020 London Marathon for charity

Nineteen year old Ella Edge from Stone is facing her biggest challenge so far as she works toward running the London Marathon 2020.

Ella has long held an enjoyment of running, with an affinity towards long distances. At 16 she ran the Stone 10k with her eye on running in the very first Big Half in London in 2018.

Whilst training for this Ella asked if she could raise money for charity. She had been talking with a friend at school who has Cystic Fibrosis about the difficulties and challenges they face. Ella decided to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and leading up to the race raised £800. A month later Ella ran the Stafford Half.

In the wake of these races she considered running a marathon. Ella really didn’t think she could manage 26.2 miles but earlier this year, without anyone knowing, she put her name in the ballot for London 2020. She also applied to the charity WellChild for a place to run for them.

Ella is now well into her training and enjoying it. She has started her fund raising by organising a charity night at The Arch in Newcastle under Lyme at the end of November. If you’d like to find out more, or donate to Ella’s cause, head to her Virgin Money Giving page.
