Stone Community Hub was kept very busy in the run up to Christmas, and is looking forward to an exciting year this year, already planning their main fundraising event!
Stone Community Hub Limited is a registered charity, based in Frank Jordan Centre, Stone, who’s motto is “Making Lives Better”. It was established in 2007 and in it’s current status in 2015. Their aim is to make a positive difference to the lives of people in the local area and to the community as a whole. A key service that they aim to provide to those people who may need it, is to combat social isolation as well as empowering people to live better lives.
In October Client Liaison Officer Jo ran her first ever marathon in Chester and raised a phenomenal £1,600 for the Hub.
December’s annual Christmas party catered to over 50 people with a free three course festive meal, and was only made possible with the generosity of local individuals, organisations and businesses who very kindly donated either money, food, drink or other items.
The children, parents/carers and leaders of Aston and Little Stoke Cubs provided a huge pile of boxes full of gifts which were given out on the day with a little help from the Cubs and Santa himself. These gifts were an amazing, unexpected treat which meant that the Hub could donate to people who were very grateful at no financial cost to us. The Hub are hoping to work together throughout the year with the Cubs at further events.
The team were overwhelmed with the amount of goods donated to the Food Bank as well over the festive period, from schools, individuals, families and organisations. The Food Bank is well stocked at present which is brilliant as the number of people needing help with emergency food parcels from the local area is increasing month by month.
The end of the Christmas school holidays saw the Winter Wonderland craft session for children and adults and attended by almost 50 people to the event which was very well received and the children all went away happy, clutching a mountain of craft items they had made throughout the session. They are hoping to run parent and children sessions of various types throughout the year during school holidays.
The Hub has lots more planned throughout the year in addition to the daily sessions which are held throughout the year. Their main fundraising event, Gin at Sandon Hall, is being held on Saturday 14th March 2020 working in partnership with Katherine House Hospice. Tickets are priced at £20 each, please visit https://www.khhospice.org.uk/event/gin-sandon-hall to book tickets.
The drop in centre is open for anyone to call in, have a chat, socialise, seek support or to use the facilities. Stone Community Hub holds the only food bank in the area for people needing emergency food parcels. A free, two course hot meal is provided weekly on a Monday lunchtime. The building is easily accessible, have access to a free car park and tea and coffee are provided daily, free of charge.
Stone Community Hub was recently recognised as the first, official Place of Welcome, in the Stone area (www.placesofwelcome.org.uk).
The Hub is totally reliant on the financial generosity of local people and companies as well as grants from other sources and are always on the lookout for volunteers, Trustees and people who are prepared to make a regular donation for membership of the Hub or indeed a one off donation via calling in or on the website www.stonecommunityhub.org.
