Help for elderly hit by post office closure

Age Concern is helping elderly people in the town who’ve been hit by the closure of the post office.

The charity – based in Station Road – has urged elderly people to pop in to their office if they need help paying bills by phone or online while the post office is closed.

The High Street post office closed on Friday and talks are ongoing to get a branch up and running in the town. Signs on the door direct customers to branches in Yarnfield, Swynnerton, Barlaston, Tittensor and Stafford.

A Post Office spokesman said at the weekend: “Due to circumstances beyond our control we have had no option but to suspend our service at Stone. We are discussing the situation with the relevant parties as a matter of urgency.

“We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience this temporary closure will cause. We are doing everything possible to restore services as soon as possible.”

A spokesman said today that talks were ongoing and that there were no further updates.
