Stone in Bloom had some extra help when they were preparing for the Heart of England in Bloom judges earlier this month – a litter-picking dog!
Stone in Bloom working group member Tony Panter used his dog’s litter-picking skills to raise money to pay for paint that the voluntary group used on street furniture like benches and bins around the town.
Aslan the white German Shepherd litter-picked 190 cans and bottles on his daily walks with owner Tony Panter.
Karl Reuter-Rushton guessed the correct number in a special competition and was the lucky winner of £125.
The Heart of England in Bloom judges visited Stone on 8th July. We’ll find out in September if Stone in Bloom have managed to scoop a gold medal for the FOURTH year running. Fingers crossed!

I think we need to take this idea a step further and set the dog onto people who are actually dropping the litter! Now that would deter them! :o)
