The Boar at Moddershall and Granvilles have been named as the best pub and restaurant in this year’s Stone in Bloom competition to find the most colourful and blooming venues across the town.
The Boar at Moddershall won this year’s pub category. The judges said: “Their appropriate choice of plants, clever design and special features outshone all other entrants. The impact of colour hits you when you first arrive and on closer inspection the judges were impressed by the many special little nooks and crannies filled with bird boxes, garden ornaments and statues.
“The gardens, window boxes and hanging baskets are well maintained and the quality of plants is excellent.”
Runner-up in the pub category is The Brushmakers Arms in Oulton.
First place in the best restaurant garden was awarded to Granvilles in Station Road for their excellent horticultural practice, cultivation and sustainability.
The day the judges visited, the garden was a haven for birds and butterflies. They said: “The garden area is spotless and for diners it’s an ideal place to sit and relax in a beautiful setting.”
Runner-up in the restaurant section is La Dolce Vita.
